Your guide to Digital Health Devices
How they work and how they are built
TLDR:
My goal is to inspire a health devices (and services) building startup revolution!
This newsletter will be a helpful repository to get started, build and commercialize!

What do I hope this newsletter achieves?
My goal / hope is to demystify health devices and help usher in a device building startup revolution!
I see new startups everyday, building SaaS (software as a service), crypto and NFT products. I want to see some people build digital health devices too. There is so much potential to provide value and build valuable businesses. Here, I am hoping to create a repository of knowledge to get inspired and started.
Building devices is hard, no doubt, but if you follow along maybe you’ll find out it is not as hard as you thought.
What will this newsletter talk about?
I’ll write multiple posts about:
- how medical devices work,
- which ones are the new exciting ones to watch,
- which other ones need to be build (opportunity) and
- how they are built (the design to commercialization process).
The next 2 posts I am planning are
- “What is objectively measure-able about our bodies? = Categories of Devices”
- “GameChanger Technology: Point of Care Ultrasound“
For some topics, I’ll chat with experts and share summaries in posts.
Let me know in comments (or contact or twitter) what topics you want to read about or nominate some experts you’d like to hear from.
Lastly – Why it is important for me to write this newsletter
(maybe this section is more for me than for you readers)
I had an early existential crisis and had to figure out what makes this life worth living.
No surprise. Like most everyone else, I need both joy and purpose.
- Joy – I love spending time in nature, with dogs, family, friends and love to build things
- Purpose – I am passionate about eliminating suffering, by creating new technology or by making existing technology more accessible
This is purpose for me. I’ve learnt a lot from others freely sharing what they know well (software, hardware, gardening, camping). In the same way, I want to share what I know well (or at least know people who know it).
The world needs more life saving, pain reducing, easy-to-use devices and I want to help make that happen.
TLDR (Again):
My goal is to inspire a health devices (and services) building startup revolution!

A wonderful and inspiring start Indira, I am looking forward to you next issue.
Thank you Steve. I am looking forward to the issue where I get to interview you 🙂
There is such a wide gap between what is available to people versus what today’s technology can deliver. I’m excited to see what new products you inspire and enable!
Completely agree Clare. There is a huge gap. Part of the challenge is to figure out how to build profitable businesses while improving health outcomes. Often these two goals seem to conflict.
I’ll cover some case studies of businesses that have had success in achieving both.
Very inspiring Indira. I’m sure this blog is going to be very successful as best way to gain insights is to learn from others experience. Looking forward to gain more knowledge from digitalhealthdevices. 🙂
Indira: very inspiring! I agree with your vision, we need more hands-on making devices.
